300 Black out bug bit me...
« on: August 28, 2015, 10:34:11 am »
So I got an email from AR15.com that KAK industries had a huge over run on 300 blackout barrels and my interests were peaked...I just got an SBR stamp back from for my AR and figured that now would be a good time to start looking at 300 balckout...I could always buy dies and start making my own rounds at some point.

Who else has experience with 300 and what are your thoughts?

Right now my plan is to buy an upper and just swap it out with the current upper I have and run it as an SBR.

If anyone is interested in some cheap 300 blackout barrels here's the link:

Oh and can anyone shed light on why pistol length gas systems seem to be the norm for blackout???

Longer dwell time to accommodate cycling with low-pressure loads is how I understand it.

Then wouldn't the pistol gas system be a shorter dwell time???

No, it's how much time it takes between the bullet passing the gas port and leaving the muzzle.

    Ah...well it's a 10.5 barrel so therefore it's short lol

I'm just starting to do some research...yet another set of dies I need to buy and now I'm looking at case annealing lol. Some would complain, but I like this stuff so it's all good.

I have been shooting supersonic only using both a 16" and shorter pistol barrel. Love this round recoil is sweeter and a very easy round to reload. Got 1000rds of brass made up from some fella who took brass in trade plus a fee to make them up. Using mostly M80 308 pull downs on them and so far all still holding specs. Made up a few for hunting but never really fielded them afterwards. SB + fun switch in blackout is much easier to control than 5.56 Have not had the urge to do silencer yet.

Mine like 147gr(M80) 2.13-2.14 oal and H110 or win 296 16.5 to 16.7 (I started out with recipe from SWAmmo 17.0 and 2.136)

Tempting price on those barrels I may grab another.

I like the caliber a lot. When the kids get in trouble that's one of the punishments, cutting 223 brass. I use rcbs small base dies and 125 hornadys or the Speer tnt bullets. Some say annealing is not needed but if you wana get the most outta the case I would, it's a lot of work
