Interesting find at Sams Club
« on: August 29, 2016, 08:39:33 pm »
Found the following case this evening at Sams Club.  It has an external air purge, two latches, and pick-n-pluck foam.

Oh and the best part is that it cost a whopping $19.99  :thumbup

Some of those Pelican knock-offs are pretty damn good.  Same materials, same construction, almost exactly the same all around.

Pelican's only patent is on the latches, which aren't particularly amazing or anything.  Everything else is pretty much open season for direct cloning.

Nice find!! I have a wee little box for my cigars and it cost a bunch more than 20 bucks. Yours even has little metal tabs at the lock holes. Sweet

That's a great little case.  Does everyone hate pick and pluck or is it just me?

It's not very durable but it's easy to use.

I stopped by Sams Club again today and noticed that they still had 15 or 20 of these cases on the end cap.   :thumbup  For some inexplicable reason, however, two more of these cases followed me home...  :hmm

I don't see these down here at the Sam's Club in CG so I'll have to venture up north to try and find them. I'd like to buy a few of them if I can make them work for my handguns.

I need to check the dimensions of this case but, if they are thick enough, I'd use them for storing handguns upright.  So for example, I could have a group of 1911's in one, SIG's in another, Glocks in another, etc.  It'd be good for storage as well as grabbing them to haul whichever type of gun I want to go to the range.

I'm hoping to use them like these 6 pack CaseCruzers.  They'd sure be cheaper.

Maybe I missed it, but found it amusing on the OP photo that they named so many things it could be used for, but not one word about guns! But for you newer guys to shooting (and we all were at one time) PLEASE don't leave your guns in open foam cases. You are asking for rust. Great for carrying to the range and back, but they hold moisture like a sponge. Closed cell foam is the best way to go for guns, and even then they need to get out and breathe.

Yea I saw them last time I was in Sam's Club.  If I had the room I'd try to purchase one or two to see what kind of quality they are........

I decided to pick up one of the Sams Club rifle cases today.  So far I'm pretty impressed.  It's sized to 44-inches which is more than long enough for most of my rifles.  It also has handles on the sizes and wheels on the bottom.  Compared to my other cases which secure the case on three sides, the Sams Club case only has latches on one size, and two metal reinforced holes for padlocks on the same side as the latches.  That said it has four latches (instead of two) so it feels like the sides are somewhat more secure.  The case has an internal gasket installed and a pressure relief screw on the front side of the case.  That said I'll need to do some testing to see how well this holds up.

It's price point is pretty darn good at $66.  If it proves itself to be secure and durable this'll be a cost effective alternative to some of the more mainstream rifle cases.

Which Sam's Club did you pick this up at?  I assume it was one of them in the Phoenix Metro area?

I ask because (again) the local Sam's down south in CG doesn't have them or only had a few so it looks like a trip up north may be in order.  Anyway, thanks for posting the review on these rifle cases.
