SIG AR's / new guns in general
« on: April 26, 2013, 08:34:16 AM »
Just a side note....

The other week or two, I dunno they all blend together, we had a couple SIG rifles come through rifle class...

The would only cycle 5-6 times and then only barely touch the primer (click no bang)....

We changed out firing pins, and no problems after that....

I had to put the SIG firing pin on a lathe and turn it..... it was not running concentric to the bolt and hanging up.. I guess..

after turning it, it runs fine...

I think what's happening right now is manufactures are pumping out stuff so fast, QA is suffering a little.  So if you get a new rifle/gun for that matter, just make sure to check it out really good.

and yes, we sent a nasty gram to SIG as well....

I took everything down by 1/10 mm (except for the front contact point).... in the center shaft of the pin (thickest part of the shaft it looked like it took a little more material than normal on one of the sides...

the weight was off too when we took and average of a bunch of pins we had laying around...

Binding inside the bolt huh? We're they piston rifles also? I could see the commandos saying it may have been dirty if it was a DI

no they were gassey's.... and they only had 50 rounds thru them thus far... they got real good at the immediate action drills tho....  :thumbup

we were gonna keep it and put it in HMFICs' rig, but he can shoot really good (he only needs 1 round at 300)... so we thought twice about it....

Yeah there was a convo about this over at SigForum about this - apparently some of Sigs 3rd Party suppliers botched a lot of the stuff they outsource.  The belief is that it was because of the crazy marketplace.  Apparently the head of production, the guys on SigForum had his name, started swinging the hammer and making ultimatums to suppliers.  Don't know if that will fix things or not.  Fingers crossed.   They still caught a lot of crap for not catching that prior to shipping.  Apparently in response though they've converted a portion of the factory to spec'ing and modding 3rd party parts in order to prevent this.  We'll see if that continues or not.

Unfortunately it reinforces the worries about SIG's QC with the change at the top.    :-\
Yes Mr. President, I do cling to my guns and my religion because unlike my government those things have never failed me.

I recently bought (before the insanity) a SIG 516 and a 716 and not had a single issue with either.

And there are hundreds of stories just like yours expressing the quality of them as well.  So it does appear to be in limited batches that make it through.  Doesn't make it better when it happens but it doesn't appear to be catastrophic either.
