Smith&Wesson M&P Shield pocket pistol in 9mm
« on: April 16, 2012, 09:31:54 PM »
Ok! i am starting a new post about my new ccw pistol Smith&Wesson's M&P Shield pocket pistol in 9mm
and man do i love this pistol!I took it to Benavery's yesterday and put my first 200rds. through it and
not one malfunction.I was using walmart winchester white box 147g.fmj and 115g.and had no issues
i wanted to see if lower grain would cause issues but after 100 rds. i had none with 115g.The trigger
is better than my M&P 40 full size it stages better and is smoother. The shield shoots like a full size pistol
and with the extended mag it comes with it feels like a full size pistol other than it is thin.I think
Smith&Wesson hit the homerun with this new pistol and i will buy the .40  as soon as it is available.
I will post range reports as i continue to fire my M&P shield

What is the recoil like on this firearm? I saw some footage from some convention and I thought it was very interesting.
Is the recoil snappy at all? I'm assuming it probably is because of it's size and weight.

I have fired a M&P 9 compact and full size and the recoil is not much different to the compact
now this is the 9mm, i am sure the .40 will have some sort of kick given this size of handgun.
But in 9mm i am very impressed on followup shots .

Good practice ammo.  If it runs with that it should handle the premium self defense stuff with no problems.

Yes that's why I wanted to try that ammo first to seee what it would do and it ran the ammo perfect

Ok! here is another range report. On my way home i passed a walmart on 19th and bell and picked me up 100rds.
of Federal 115grn.fmj and headed for BenAverys,I live in Anthem so Averys is on my way home.I thought i would plink
another 100rds. for my breakin period, and honestly after 300rds. today i dont think the M&P shield needs breaking in.
Now i have not cleaned my weapon and do not plan to till i have at least 500rds. through it and the trigger seems to
be getting even better after todays session. To make a long story short all 100 rds.today fired wit no malfunctions of
any type so now that is 300 rds. tatal with no malfunctions.I will try to post a video of my next shooting session
if i can figure out how to post it here. Thanks!

Ok! i just finished my 500rds. plus, today on my M&P Shield, and i must say no more ccw looking.I found my weapon of choice
and it not only fired 500rds. flawless it conciels iwb comfortably. This weapon is going to be a winner. I have read recent threads
about this new firearm and all are very positive on reliability, but there are those that hate the safety on this weapon, well i am
giving you my review and my opinion of why the safety was inc. if you fire this M&P Shield the trigger does not have much overtravel
before it breaks and is very light, my personal opinion is dangerously light! i did not want to use that word, but i want to give my full opinion
of this weapon, i believe thats why the safety is there because consumers will pocket this weapon and carry with a round chambered and
as soft as this trigger is i would want the safety. Now you can disagree but until you fire this weapon and see how light this trigger is and
its breaking points and reset points you will say wow! And I believe you wont carry this weapon iwb or in your pocket without that safety on. Now from other posts
Smith&Wesson is going to put this new trigger in there M&P line of pistols from here on and that tells me they made the M&P shield just right.

+1 on the M&P Shield!

Mine rocks! I think I've pushed at least 500 rounds through mine since purchasing it.  Other than occasionally not going completely into battery (a simple push to the back of the slide corrects that), this 9mm is awesome!

Recall isn't bad at all... on the other hand, I tend to fire Speer Lawman through mine.  Since Speer Lawman is loaded somewhat hotter than standard loads it does tend to transfer a bit more recoil to my hands.

Did you guys shoot your carry ammo through them?  If so any problems? (not expecting any)

I shot a box of Hornady Critical Defense through it without issue... that said I've only fired those 20 rounds of CD along with 450+ rounds of Speer Lawman and 115gr. MIWALL (gun show) ammo.
