The "to-do" list
« on: June 19, 2012, 04:53:11 PM »
I expect every gun owner has a "to-do" list of gun stuff that want and gun-related things they want to do.  Here's mine...

  • I want to get another good AK-47.  I have a good one now, but I love it so much I want another.
  • I want to get another SA Compact (a Colt CCO-style gun, no longer made).  I love the one I have now and would like another.  I found one recently, but gave the opportunity to a buddy who was also after one.
  • I'd like to do some customization on my Delta Elite.  Novak-style sights top that list.  New grips too.
  • I want to do some competitions.  I'm a little nervous about it, so maybe be a spectator first, but I want to give it a go.
  • Training.  Want to start trying out some classes, both pistol and rifle.  I've taken a carbine course, which was good.  Want to get some more.
  • I posted about a PTR a few days back.  WANT!  ;)
  • I need a decent .22 rifle.  Probably pick up a 10/22 one of these days.
  • I have all the reloading gear necessary to start reloading.  Even 5 gallon buckets (<-- plural) of brass in various calibers.  Just gotta clear a space and get to that.
  • I need this heat to get done with and the fire restrictions lifted so we can do another shoot!   :thumbup

So there's my to-do list.  It's by no means complete.  What about ya'll?

1.  I need to buy an SA Compact so my son doesn't bankrupt T shooting his.  ;) Maybe in a couple days...
2.  I want to buy a Trijicon Accupoint 1.25x4 and a mount for my SA58 FAL.
3.  After the recent thread I want an AK74. Waffen Werks or Arsenal  :drool
4.  I got the Trijicon HD night sights for my Glock 19. I need to install them.
5.  I've got to get started reloading too. 45-70 and 303 is expensive!  I've got a lot of 30-06 brass sitting around.
6.  A new scope for my M77 in .243. It's sat in the safe too long.
7.  I second the heat being done and going for another shoot.  :thumbup

Geez I could probably sit here all day on this one....

6.  Want an AK47

1. Get a lever gun in a pistol caliber.
2. Get a Blackhawk in 44 mag so I can have one in each of the common calibers.
3. Get better at carving and stamping leather for holsters. (I'm a beginner)
4. Get a Mossberg MVP for some possible predator hunting but also like the concept and would make a decent target rifle.
5. Win the lotto so I can afford the guns above.

I don't have a to-do list per se, but I do keep a running list of things to look for at the gun show, that way I just pick up the list when I leave for the show and don't have to worry about forgetting something.

I've been accumulating guns long enough that I've mostly got what I want.

In no particular order:
  • Finish off my Stevens scout. I need to mill up a forward rail for it and finish off the stripper clip guide.
  • Build my .45acp Mauser. I have a bare receiver waiting on this.
  • Finish my 03A3 sporter in .308 Norma Mag. My grandfather started this project back in the mists of time. I found the barreled action when I inherited his shop.
  • Build up an AK in 6.5 Grendel. I have a parts kit that's been waiting for me to get around to it for about 6 years now.
  • Get my LLC formed and get an FFL.

You should go to Rio Salado sportsman's club at usery pass for Tuesday night steel. It's the best way to get into IPSC, USPSA, IDPA or 3-gun.

My to-do list is less about acquiring new weapons, although I would like to sell a few and buy a few just to get my calibers consistent.  I'm more about the gear and accessories and more importantly training and ammo stocking.

IMHO - Having 15 rifles is of little use if you are only marginally proficient.
With one of them.
And its the .22.
And its a bolt action.

I'd rather spend some classroom time and field time with an instructor and then practice practice practice.  I'd like to get really good.  Then base any future purchases off of my abilities.  If I find that I really suck at anything beyond 150 yards, then I can scratch the McMillan off of the list.  If I'm really freaking amazingly good at 1000 yards then perhaps a Lapua falls into the safe.

Same with a pistol.  If I can't improve on where I currently hit then I'm just going to get a shot gun and start redecorating the house if an intruder comes in.

I watched a Three Gun competition at Ben Avery last fall.  My daughter was with me and we both got a kick.  I'd gear up and do it but you have to dress funny, grow a ZZTop beard and pick a "Competition Name" like Zeek Jones or Obidiah Weatherman.  Meh...  That's too much, I just want to go BANG-PING!

In no particular order,

1)  Acquire a .22 pistol with a can.
2)  Get back into reloading.  Especially .303 British.
3)   Figure out which Enfield I want to get the "tanker" conversion ala Jesse.
4)   Sight in my new ( to me ) Savage model 10.
5)   Go through a concealed carry class and get the paperwork squared away.
6)    Go to a gun show and actually find something I want/need at a reasonable price.
7)    Get familiar enough with the digital camera to post photos so I can amaze and impress my friends here at AZGO.
8)    Get off my duff and buy some of the great looking AZGO merchandise that is available.
9)    Vote for Mitt Romney.
10)   Get ready for the sh*tstorm that's coming if he doesn't win.
Yes Mr. President, I do cling to my guns and my religion because unlike my government those things have never failed me.

1) work up a .44 mag load for my upcoming Iowa deer hunt
2) get a serious range day shoehorned back into the weekly schedule
3) work on bb gun marksmanship with my son
4) hard chrome (or similar) finish for my old Clackamas Kimber 1911 and maybe some bone or stag grips.
5) cast and lube/size more bullets
6) ccw class and paperwork = reciprocity is cool

Get my reloaders set up and start rolling my own ammo.
Get another J frame
Aquire a nice S&W Model 25 (and maybe a nice "BBQ rig" to go with it)
Get proper leather/accessories for all my firearms.
I would like to take up Western Action shooting and get the proper firearms to do so.
Need to finish getting all my BOB/ camping preps and gear squared away.
