Shooting at Table Mesa
« on: June 24, 2012, 09:36:10 PM »
Hey guys sorry if this has been discussed in another thread but the BLM website leaves me a little confused. Plain and simple can I go shoot out there or not? I see only certain areas of Table Mesa are still allowed for shooting but with the fire danger right now is it legal to go shoot in those areas still allowed?  :confused  Would really appreciate it if anyone could clear this up for me thanks.

I think it's ok in some areas out there.  I haven't been out there since the fire restrictions started around the state, but when I was last out there, there were signs posted where you couldn't shoot.

In addition, there's a big billboard as you enter the area that has some use info.

Not as much help as you'd like I suspect, but the best I personally can do.  Maybe others know more.

Stage one fire restrictions, State Wide: No fires, of any kind.  No chainsaw use.  No OHV/ATVs w/o spark arrestors.  No shooting except for hunting, no smoking except inside an enclosed vehicle.  In short, nothing that could potentially create, or cause a spark, and thereby start a wildfire.

There was a brush fire on I-17 yesterday, on the east side of the road, south of Black Canyon City.  No doubt someone threw a lit cigarette out the window.  Traveling further north you can see the burn in the median, between Sunset Point rest area, and Cordes Junction.

Spend the money, go to a range.  As opposed to spend more money and maybe go to jail.  If you insist on shooting outside, go to Ben Avery, otherwise Shooters World has a nice cool indoor range.

You can't practice holster firing, nor rehearse tactical scenario's at a range...

just give them a call and ask.. better to be safe than sorry..

Did some shopping at J&Gs  Saturday and shot outside of Mayer, north, later that morning. Made sure we had fire extinguishers and lots of water, shot some  frozen grapefruit.

Hey thanks for all the feed back, glad I did not go out during the fire restriction. Hopefully these clouds turn into rain so we can all get outdoors and shoot! I'm mad Ben Avery is closed on Tuesdays because its really nice out right now and it would be a good day to go.

As mentioned above:
Almost all of Arizona public lands are under Stage 1, or Stage 2 (more restrictive) fire restrictions.
Fines for discharging a firearm range from $600 (unincorporated county areas) to $5000 (federal property).

Coconino N.F. has added the following excerpt to their latest Press release - 6/28
"Additionally, there has been an increase in violations of the current restriction of “no discharging a firearm” and visitors are asked to refrain from shooting in the forest. Forest conditions are currently at the extreme level, which means it is extremely dry and sparks from bullets can ignite a wildfire. Thus, shooting within the Coconino National Forest is currently prohibited. "

As Shooters, who enjoy our sport, and our freedom to use these public lands, pray for rain, and pick up after yourselves. Don't give the anti-gun
group fuel for their attack on our rights.
Thanks

Keep in mind:  That's just for shooting.

Start a fire, it becomes a felony, as in ARSON.  You can count on adding several zeroes to those numbers, at least a year in prison, loss of your right to own a gun.  And I can almost gaurantee, you'll be held civilly liable, if someone looses their home as a result of a fire you are responsible for starting.

Go to a damn RANGE!

The more of this ->  http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/news/articles/2012/07/03/20120703western-wildfires-guns-blamed.html  The more we will lose our freedom to shoot on public lands.
