FNP with busted extractor
« on: February 24, 2012, 09:54:18 AM »
So I have this FNP-40 with a broken extractor.

FN will cover it I'm pretty sure, but shipping is silly.  It'd be cheaper to do it myself.

But... I'm not seeing anywhere I can get one except directly from FN.  FN's website alludes to them being the only distributor, but I still wonder.

Anyone know of any third-party parts dealers for FN?

Why not just have FN send you a new extractor?

I don't know.  I have issues.   :-[

Looking to pinch pennies I guess.

EDIT:  Wait... did you mean have them send me a new one under warranty?  I'm not sure they'd do that.  I think they'll want to whole pistol.

Do they charge an exorbitant amount for it? I figure the cost of sending a slide or whole pistol back to them must be steep, but I wouldn't think just an extractor would be too bad.

I've looked at all the usual sources and can't find any alternatives to FNH USA for FNP parts.

Alright... so after two attempts I got through to someone on my third try.  The first two times had me on hold for 15 minutes before prompting me to leave a message.  Third time I got someone around the 11 minute mark.

The part number is V515H47052.  No Google hits on that.

FN doesn't have the part.  It's on backorder.  Price is $4.  Nice, right?  Well...

I went ahead and placed the order.  After taking all my info and whatnot, she asks me how I want it shipped, USP or US Mail.  I ask about the cost.  Apparently there's a minimum $8 charge to ship, making both methods cost the same.  :facepalm   So I just picked US Mail.

All told, it cost me $12 OTD.

Call me a nut... but I still wish I could have found it third party.  The principle alone of paying a 1000% markup on shipping is unsettling.  :-\

You've got to figure in the cost of paying someone $20/hour to grab the part out of the stockroom and drop it into an envelope.  :pfft

Hell, if the shipping cost would be the same you should have ordered two - either for a spare or to sell to the obviously pent up market.

Good Lord, at those rates I'd have had them ship me two or three

Sorry man.  I'm a total shipping whore.  I've been known to call friends before placing orders with companies with a high ship rate to help them get as much as possible for the ship rate.  Seriously thats an insane amount for shipping a $4 part.
