Favorite Powders
« on: December 07, 2014, 10:12:28 am »
Hi, Everyone!

Been ages since I posted anything on the boards.  Sorry, but life has been moving along at a high rate of speed.  :)  I've started doing some gunshows in preparation to possibly opening a store front next year for the gunsmith business and expanding into limited retail and accessories.  One item I had several people hit me for at the last gunshow was powder.  I had a pound of blackpowder setting on my table, but they were looking for reloading powders for pistol and rifle.

While I have the equipment to begin reloading for myself, I haven't yet taken the leap of faith and don't know what is popular or desirable.  So with that said, what is everyone's favorite(s) for reloading?  Also, do folks have favorites for primers?  When I look at my sources, I see several brands for large and small primers, both rifle and pistol, but have no idea what might be interesting to folks.

Appreciate any advise anyone would care to share.

~Craig

    My favorite powders handguns:
    WW231 for regular practice loads in 9mm, 38 Spec, 40 S&W and 45 ACP.
WW296 for magnum rounds in 357 Mag, 44 Mag, 45 Colt heavy loads and 45 WinMag. Also, until I sold them off my 41 Mag and 454 Casull
handguns recently I also used WW296 as my favorite powder for those calibers as well.
Unique and Blue Dot for 44 Spec, 45 Colt and other light big bore loads.

    The favorite powders for rifles:
    H335 for 223/5.56x45 and some 308/7.62x51 loads.
H4985, H4350 and Varget for 30/06 and some 300 WinMag loads.
H1000 for some 300 WinMag loads.

I prefered to use only CCI primers until the various primer shortages and sine then I've started using WW primers as well.
