If GOA should be letting us all down underneath, I would find that very disheartening. . . . I pay GOA membership dues every year to be my national gun-rights watch dog. I would hate to think that they are abusing my dues money.

As others have pointed out, this type of appeal to emotions is the same tactic that people on the opposite side of the argument use to scare people away from guns. Similarly, it's just as bad for you (or anyone else) to fall for it, as it would be for someone to fall for anti-gun scare tactics. The only way we're going to see any progress in this whole anti-gun movement is if we show the public that we're consistently more rational than our competition. These types of actions by GOA and its supporters, while perhaps well-intentioned (by
some), are only going to hurt our cause - because anyone looking at this from an objective point of view will see right through it.
I'd go with what T has suggested. Don't simply repeat what you hear, even if you think it comes from a reputable source. Verify these types of things for yourself. We already have plenty of people in this country repeating erroneous descriptions like "assault weapons", "machine guns", "high-capacity clips", etc. without doing their research first. Not only is it something they should not do for their own sake, it also gets passed around and repeated by anyone who listens to them.
Until then, we're all just a bunch of moneys throwing feces.
