Pocket stoves
« on: February 05, 2015, 02:47:48 pm »
I found one of these at my local military surplus store.

I haven't had the need for one in years. I just figured that they would be nice to keep around. Has anyone else toyed around with solid fuel stoves?

I like how compact they are.

Esbit is good in a pinch.  They're small and the fuel doesn't leak like liquid fueled stoves.  Alcohol stoves throw more heat but the fuel can be a problem.

Google rocket stove or camping stove. they work great and are a cool project for a rainy afternoon

I haven't used one in years but the ones I remember using like that worked real well.  The only problem we had was getting the fuel to light if it was windy out, but we just turned the stove so one of the metal sides blocked the wind.

If you use a firestarter rod and some cotton balls with some twiggs they light right off.

Try taking dryer lint , you roll it into little balls and coat it with Vaseline, put them in a zip lock bag , they last forever and will set anything on fire. Once you put a match or lighter to it.

Take old ceiling tiles and cut them into 2"×2" squares. Then dip them into melted wax. Water proof for starters. They burn fat as Hell to. When ready to use scrape wax off in one area to light. The rest of the wax will melt off after it catches.
