Organized Firearms Ranges
« on: August 07, 2012, 12:07:54 AM »
I've had it trying to work w Ben Avery's to organize a shooting class.  This is retarded.  Does anyone know what ranges in the central Phoenix Area are friendly to setting up instructors from out of state?  Or ones that actually have non-static ranges for classes?

The issues you have are one main reason I refuse to use any static ranges at all. Most can be difficult to deal with for many reasons.

Yeah trying to get setup at ben Avery's is an exercise in aggravation.  I worked w Todd Green to get a class here a few years ago.  Loved it.   But Ben Avery's was the weakest link.  Trying to get a weekend w an appropriate range is nigh impossible because they calendar the tactical ranges just one night a year and you must be present w insurance and leadership etc.  But if you are not the instructor then reserving it just isn't gonna happen because the various shooting groups IDPA, IPSC, SASS take over every weekenda year.

BA is the worst to me, I tried with them back in 2004 and it was hard, never went together. I refuse to use them at all now. Another thing I found about ranges is that if you don not use them on a regular basis, getting any dates is even more difficult to achieve.

Well guys, not sure what to tell you but I get ranges there when I need them. If you need specialty moving targets crazy IDPA stuff I suppose it could be hard, but I've never had a problem.

Todd Green's class has a lot of movement.  BA range masters crap their pants at that.

Harm was telling me that one range master kept trying to intervene in the class with his training opinions.  Pfff.

In 2005 I had this issue when I used the Shooters World ranges (I would rent a whole bay) on a regular basis, One of several reason I left them. The range masters were consistantly telling the students that thier gun was a POS and needed a new one. I got feed up with it and asked the RM if I could have 1 shot (with the gun that he is calling a POS) and if he would volunteer to be a target, he responded with "No, I could be killed". I said "Thank you and please leave"!

I value everyone's opinion, just when they are needed and/or appropriate!
