Do You Roll Your Own?
« on: February 26, 2012, 11:32:01 AM »
So who here as built their own AK, FMP, HK, RPD etc.?  Did you succeed?  Or do you now have parts you want to sell, err, I mean junk sitting in he garage  ;D.  What tools did you use?  Would you do it again?  Are you doing it now (well obviously not you are typing on this forum).  Just want to here from other crafty AZers.  Oh!  And post pics too!

Somebody laughed and fled,
And the men of the First Shikaris
Picked up their Subaltern dead,
With a big blue mark in his forehead
And the back blown out of his head.

a few ak's, different breeds from bending reciever to shootin, fals, ar's, have an rpk underway, and am waiting on some tube to do a couple stens,
I"m struggling with paying for a suomi tube and parts, think I"ll wait till later when I have more time and maybe use  a friends lathe and make my own.
I don't do tv, so have a lot of time on my hands.

So always have stuff going on, but living gets in the way of my projects, like today, the pool motor decided to take a dump, while removing I broke a flange off on the pump, so, now a new pump, motor etc, and while at it, might as well replumb the manifold, as I have a valve leaking. no end to homeowner ship and living.

I DO enjoy making a shooter.

Never built one honestly.  Would love to but admittedly lacking in confidence.

We're going to have to do a build party sometime.

OK but who's going to bring the adult?   :pfft
Yes Mr. President, I do cling to my guns and my religion because unlike my government those things have never failed me.

AR's are very easy to build, some kits run as low as $550.00 and up to well over $2000.00, you need to buy a lower reciver also, I like the Surplus Ammo and Arms, the can be found for $90.00, I have not built any AK's yet, but the weapon looks easy to build.

Do you save any $$ building your own?  Are parts from different manufacturers fairly compatible?
The only thing that separates man from animal is our affinity for toilet paper.

Once we as a society lose that affinity we begin to descend back into the animal kingdom, and after three or more days you will find the food chain beginning to invert on itself.

After you spend the money to buy the tools (not cheap) yes.  Most AK-47 parts are interchangable, there are few exceptions of course.  I have one I refer to as the Kalashni-stein or Frankenov; it is an amalgamation of Romanian, MAADI and Polish parts.  Again the biggest detractor for first time builders is tool investment, but then again thats what friends are for right?  ;)
