DPS backlog
« on: August 15, 2012, 05:38:22 pm »
I seen the other night while actually reading the the ticker scrolling on the bottom of the news that DPS  was unable to keep up with the number finger prints to process. It said they had a backlog of 12000 fingerprints to do. :shocked

Doesn't surprise me.  They're way understaffed for the workload.

I submitted my CCW application back in the beginning of April.  It was finally approved and in my posession at the end of June.  About a week before I received the permit, I called DPS.  The woman I talked to told me that they were severely backed up on processing applications... and that I might have to wait till mid-July to get my permit!  :facepalm  Needless to say I was really happy when it arrived the following week!  :thumbup

I feel safe in saying you wont get it back in time. Unless you have a friend in the processing department. 8)

I only need it for gun buying, and I'd tapped out right now.  So no big deal.   ;)

It's a very easy process and my wife just sent her renewal in a week or so ago.  Fill out the form (5 minutes tops),  put in a Money order, cashier's or certified check for $43.00 and mail it in.

    Very painless.

The crappy thing is public safety stuff (arrest, warrants, ect...) will be first, I believe CCW prints are in the middle to back of the line. But, I have had several people from recent classes state they got thiers in 4 weeks.

Actually I'm pretty sure I can still renew without having to do a class and fingerprint deal.  DPS says up it can be renewed up to 60 days after expiration.

Just make sure the renewal application is in process (accepted by DPS) before the 60 days after expiration is up. I know of several people that sent in renewals and DPS logged them in 1 day a after 60 day and they sent them back to the applicants. In fact, I am helping out a few right now for this exact reason. If it happens to you, keep the old permit, you can use that to skip the class all together.

In such a case I'd probably take a class anyway.  I like to shoot and would probably enjoy it.

Just an FYI, If you have prior military service, you don't have to take the class. Your training in the Military counts as a required safety course. That's how I got mine. Also, the book says you can use your AZ hunter safety course as an alternate training. interesting

I agree that most should take the class. And I'm sure it is enjoyable too. But I figured 6 years of intensive firearms training (as a weapons sgt) was probably sufficient for me to go ahead and take the pass and save the $50 8)
