Reviews of 10mm Handguns?
« on: July 28, 2015, 09:05:02 pm »
Hey everyone.
I'm looking into making my next handgun purchase and have been reading a lot about the 10mm. Everything I've been reading seems to really hype it up as a great round. But I'd really like some honest feedback from anyone who has shot it. I enjoy shooting my 9 and .45, a glock 20 or 29 would most likely be what i would look for if i decide on it. Anyone's EDC a 10mm? Feedback on other handguns besides glock in 10mm?

I carry my glock 29 regularly. I like it but others that have shot it say the recoil is too bad on it. I dont really think the recoil is bad myself.

Its not hard to conceal either, its wider than a 26 but its still easily doable.

10 mils are awesome. I can't say that I've ever thought about carring one. I'd love to own own in a CZ or 1911 style platform.

I carry my Colt Delta Elite.   I'm a big guy,  but I much prefer shooting a 45.  The 10mm loaded to full power has significant recoil.  For carry,  I don't know that you beat that power in an automatic pistol.

You might want to wait for the Glock 40 to start shipping, long barrel 10mm.

I have a Colt 10mm from the early 90's. I love it and It's been shot a lot. Has over 80,000 rounds through it. It's on barrel two now. Still like shooting, even at almost 70 years old. Yes, I'm old fart. :thumbup

I'm trying to think of all the 10mm pistols that have been produced. It's not a long list.

    Bren Ten
    S&W 10XX series
Colt Delta Elite (and various other 1911 makers)
    Tanfoglio/EAA Witness
    Glock 20, 29, & 40
    Sig P220

And a few revolvers like the Ruger Blackhawk and S&W 610.

I did own a S&W 610 with 5'' barrel. I sold it because I got tired of playing with full moon clips. It was a shooter. :thumbup

Add Korth revolvers to the list.

Thank you for all the feedback!
Looks like I'm going to have to start getting to some stores and see what 10mm feels the best.

I had a Glock G20 and G29, both at the same time and both were excellent handguns.  The G29 is small enough to use for CCW and the G20 is large enough and tough enough to handle the recoil and it's not all that bad to shoot.  If I were to go back to a 10mm Auto it'd be a Glock and I'd not even think about any of the others.

Very pleased with my Sig P220 Reverse Two Tone. Very heavy and I don't plan to carry it. It shoots well and is very accurate.

Ditto. Factory 10mm Auto has been loaded down so much you might as well carry a 40S&W if you're going to use Factory 10mm.  I think it may have been done in respect for all those Colt Delta Elites in 10mm that just can't take the stress of full power 10mm ammo.
The older S&W 10mm's were pretty stout as are the Glocks. Either can take a lot of 10mm and keep running.

While the Colt Delta Elite doesn't have a fully supported chamber,  it can handle full loads just fine.   It can't handle the crazy hot loads like underwood, usually.   I carry Buffalo Bore 180gr JHP 1350fps.  I don't know of a 40 that can touch that.   Some of the plinking ammo is loaded light (1150-1250fps), but it's still faster than a 40.

May as well carry a 40?  NEVER.

80,000+??? Are you sure you're keeping track of your round count right?    :hmm
If you got the gun when it first came out in 1987 then that means you've shot 2857 rounds per year over the last 28 years. That's a lot of 10mm ammo to burn through each year unless you're shooting IPSC or IDPA matches with it.
Here's a vid for ya' to watch.
