ar 500 targets
« on: October 23, 2012, 09:52:04 pm »
found this posting on back page , and i need to pick some up since my son decided to shoot the target i just put together for him with some metal plate i got at a job site , with my AR . His reasoning was that i told him that the target was for him to shoot at with his 22 , and that bullets that my rifle send down range are 22 caliber  ,  :cursing .            http://phoenix.backpage.com/SportsEquipForSale/ar500-targets-and-stands/19784950

I should have said that we went out and tested those stands I made for Car-Ram-Rod a couple weeks ago and they turned out pretty good if I do say so my self.

Well i have an AR500 related question for some of you. I went shooting with a buddy the other day and he shot one of my large plates with his Kimber rifle (.308 chamber) and the bullet left a perfect copper colored circle...I've never seen this before, has anyone else? Until now all the bullet impacts were the grayish round circles.

Also look a little further down and you can see where one of the rounds impacted on the side...I think it clipped a small branch on a bush that was hanging in front of it.

Just thought this was cool and wanted to share.

I hunt with Hornady GMX bullets and they will do that. I suspect he was shooting a solid non-lead projectile

Gotchya, I'm looking for some good 175 grn projectiles once I start reloading my .308. My Barrel is a 1:10 and from what everyone has told me the 175 does the best. I've shot 165 and 168. So far I'm noticing 168 being the more consistant. I have 20 round of 175 and I think 10 of 180 I need to test out.

Barnes makes a 180gr TTSX that is awesome. The 180 is not as accurate in my .308 as the 165 is, but is an absolutely beautiful performer in my nephews .308. It's a flat shooting hard hitting one shot kill delivering beast that retains 99% + of it's weight. The Barnes TTSX's are my solids of choice but the Hornady is easier to find.

I shot 20 rounds of hornady .308 165gr. The only damage it took was when the plate turned and i clipped the side. It left a good dent but nothing horrible loo
