Not surprised by the 100-200 yard slug results. The 300 though very much so. I would guess that if you got hit with a 1oz slug out to 500 yards the trauma would be brutal, even if the slug didn't penetrate...???

How far out did .45-70 kill buffalo? Big hunks of lead at moderate velocities don't lose energy very fast even if their trajectories do look like artillery.

Back in the 70's l shot a doe deer out at 150+ yards with a 12 gauge slug. The wound cavity looked like it was 50 yards... as Jesse said its one big hunk of lead moving down range. Another time l shot a slug out across a big lake that had no real rippling movement on the surface... slug must have gone 600-700 yards before splash down. We though it must had hit the water before that. LOL LOL there were some ducks paddling around out that distance and as the slug must have landed somewhere in their little flock as they went 360 directions...

If he was using a longer and rifled slug barrel for those slugs, I'm willing to bet he could reach out a touch farther with decent accuracy

Yup.  Most folks in the south will tell you that a shotgun - any shotgun - loaded with just about anything capable of being fired from it is bad ju ju.  Cut shells were the poor man's deer slug back in the day and many a poached deer ended up in the meat house after being bagged by such a load.   An ounce or so of lead is an ounce or so of lead and if it hits you before it has the chance to spread out more than a couple of inches you are, generally speaking,  screwed.    Even if it doesn't kill you outright it has the effect of making you rethink your current situation.   Over the years I've seen just about everything you can think of loaded into shotgun shells, from galvanized roofing nails with the heads cut off to a couple of lock nuts tied together with iron wire.  If you can load it into a cylinder bored shotgun and don't much care about what happens to the barrel, you too can join the ranks of the Redneck Engineers of Amurica.

One thing they did not try was 20ga sabots from a rifled choke.

I did. I would not recommend being on the receiving end.

My preferred Goblin load is the 20ga #3 buck.
