50 yard zero for the ACOG?
« on: April 23, 2018, 02:39:58 pm »
I know...I know...the manual says to sight in at 100 yards.  But with 2-Gun you have mostly 50 yard targets and sometimes 200 yards.  I'm thinking with a 50 yard zero it will hit a little high at 100 yards and just about dead on at 200 yards.  That should do the trick I think?

Never guess. Shoot the distances to know your hold. Tolerance stacks leads to misses

I am old and the hunting rule of thumb was 3" high at 100 yards with the 308 or 30-06 which will give you close to 300 yards before you have to hold over. The 5.56 has a similar trajectory to the 308. I still sight in that way. We mostly used 4X32 scopes with cross hair reticles as variables were not that good. BDC reticles only work at the highest power and are mostly a pita that clutters up the scope. BDC's are not needed inside 300 yards.

Zero in your rifle for the way you use it. Competition, home defense, long range targets. Have YOUR rifle zeroed in for YOUR use.

Your assumptions are correct.  A 50yd zero should get you right where you want to be for your application.
