What's your go-to low recoil semi 12 gauge?
« on: May 02, 2018, 11:09:25 am »
I like 12 gauge but am kinda recoil sensitive... What's your favorite semi auto 12 that doesn't beat up the shooter?

FYI I can shoot a 8mm Mauser with Limbsaver for a long time, so am used to some recoil.

I have the Rem 1187 that works very well. I used it in three gun and never failed.

Typically a gas operated semi auto is the softest.

I am also a fan of the Remington 1100/11-87 platform,  they shoot nice.

It's really unbelievable how much less perceived kick it has than pump-action shotguns.

I am not into recoil but I do shoot a 12 pump. Poor fit can amplify recoil. I just installed a Magpul stock on one of my Mossberg 500's and it did dampen the recoil. It has spacers and I had it a little too short on my 1st try so I added one of the supplied spacers. The grip angle is steeper and the cheek is flat instead of angled down and that does make a difference. Different height risers are available if you use sights. Now I am thinking of changing the other 500. Also available for 870.

    Benelli  M4

This man speaks the truth. Its a little pricey but worth every penny. I wouldnt spend less on others and when you shoot a m4 you will wish you got that instead.. or go for the poor man’s version and get the remington versa max..

I have the 930SPX and the Beretta 1301T.

I like the 1301 better but it’s pretty close.

I just put an Aridus sidesaddle and a Nordic Components tube extended on it. I can get 7 2.3/4” shells in the tube now. Six on the side saddle. I want to put an Aridus CROM sight on it to mount an Aimpoint. The CROM cowitnesses the Aimpoint. Aridus also makes an adapter to mount a Magpul stock.

    Thats sounds like beast.

I went the 930 spx blackwater route. Nice to see another 930 brother.

I have both the Benelli M4 and the Versa Max Tactical. Both shoot awesome and zero issues with nornal or low recoil ammo. I prefer the M4,however even with low recoil ammo it kicks just a tad more. There appear to be no replacements for the hard rubber stock so I just placed a Limbsaver slip on pad over the hard rubber (factory collapsible stock) and its a pussycat. At 25 yards with either Fiocchi 3/4 oz low recoil or the Federal truball low recoil I get an 8 shot cloverleaf with the M4.... Very happy with it and I think it will be the last defensive shotgun I will ever own.. :thumbup

At the moment I feel the same.. its will be my last shotgun unless something new comes out on the market or I can get a hold of an AA12. If I had to run out the door I would grab the M4 over the SPAS..

I gave up my 12ga's after repeated heart surgery, the second sternum reconstruction left me with a very fragile rib cage.

So I went with 20ga and never looked back. Today, I have a Charles Daly Semi 20ga, and an 11-87 20ga; both employ the same rem-chokes. The rifled choke tube allows for accurate shooting with sabots, works pretty well with rifled slugs as well, and turns 20ga buck into a broad patterned hallway sweeper (everybody gets some...; reapply as needed, it is a semi...).

My Wife bought me the Charles Daly 20 right after my first followup exam in early 2005 which suggested strongly that I was actually going to survive the Quadruple Bypass.

    Good plan.

I liked it so much, I bought the 11-87 so she could have some of the fun, too.

Been running a Remington 1100 in 12 gauge for years and it will cycle 2 3/4" light loads just fine when its cleaned and oiled regularly.  The recoil is greater than the same gun in 20 gauge but not bad all things considered.

Probably the lightest recoiling 12 gauge set up would be a Mossberg 500 variant with an OpSol adapter that allows you to shoot the 1 3/4" mini shells.

Win 1200, 2 3/4", pump with recoil reduction system.  Shoot 4 straight rounds of trap.

That's nice.  :drool  I found out several months ago that I can "ghost load" an extra round in my M4 for a total of 9 rounds on tap.
