Czech VZ 24 Mauser!

Hello AZGo members,

I found a interesting old war horse last weekend,

1927 Czech VZ 24 8mm Mauser. Non matching numbers and missing a few small parts.

It also had a cracked upper hand guard.

After getting it home, I disassembled it for a good cleaning. While inspecting it I found Farsi

looking letters on the I.D. disc. Also a FED ORD S. EL MONTE, CA import mark under the

barrel. Then found a upside down 2 in a triangle on the receiver.

After a little searching on the web, I found out the mark is called a Jeem.

(Iraqi Army property mark)

These where imported from Israel, probably captured from the Syrians or Jordanians.

I think I did good for $250. Found the small parts it needs from Liberty Tree Collectors.

Look forward to getting it out to the range.

From what I've found on the web, here is some history.

Made in 1927 for the Czech Army. Most likely absorbed into the Axis in 1937 when Germany occupied Czechoslovakia. Possibly served on the Eastern front where it could have been captured by the Russians and then later given to the Iraqi Army. They either sold or gave it to the Syrians or Jordanians. It was likely captured by the Israelis and then sold for surplus to the U.S.

Well, I got my parts and reproduction sling from Liberty Tree Collectors.

Also found a 1937 Czech bayonet for the old war horse.

Looks like I'm $375 into it. Just need a bayonet frog.

My first C&R was a VZ24.  Paid 200 at the time (2003) but it was a looker.  Must have been "re-arsenaled."  Bbl was a bit shot out but still shoots one minute of good enough at 100yds.  Heavy AF but Id shoot it any day over a 91/30 Mosin.  Prettier too.  Still have some of the 1920s ammo.  That stuff is still going bang too.

Yep, I've shot some pre war 8mm Mauser ammo. It all went BANG.

Bought a load of (1940s) surplus .303 British years back, I was lucky if half went BANG.

Just purchased some Yugo 8mm (1950s) on GB from a member in Phoenix. As long as it

was stored well, I expect it to all go BANG too.

I've been on a Mauser kick this year. Did some horse trading with a AzGo member.

Beautiful rifles, getting that Czech rifle for the price you did was a great deal! The Yugo M24 is one of my favorite Mausers to shoot.
