Plenty of reloading supplies available.
« on: March 18, 2020, 09:25:23 am »
Well, we're cleaned out of 9mm, 40 S&W, 45acp, 38spl, 357 Mag and most other common handgun calibers at work(Sportsman's Warehouse, Avondale) but we DO have plenty of reloading supplies to load all of those calibers. It's a great time to be a handloader. Ammo shortage, What Ammo Shortage???, LOL. :thumbup

What's up with primers? Prescott SW hasn't had more than a few bricks available since last year. One of our Walmarts has more primers in stock than Sportsman's.

    This is odd.

2 days ago, SW Avondale had no small primers or corresponding powders on shelves or online inventory...
Did they get a new inventory?

Ha! That was so 2 days ago. Went to SW for powder and primers today in Flag. Primers cleaned out. Brass was 50% gone, bullets are 20% off... bought some. Powder was running out.  Gun counter was 4 lines 4 deep. I heard 3 guys say something to the effect of " this is my first handgun/ pistol, etc."
    2 box limit on ammo.
Was interesting to watch.  Did have TP in the RV section.😂

Guys who claim there are plenty of reloading supplies,

Could you please tell us where to look for it?
It would be nice to find powders and primers for 223 and 9mm but everywhere I look (online or local) all they have is large/magnum primers and almost no powders.

Maybe I am looking on the wrong planet  :hmm

all components are at at premium, and expect to pay more. internet sales are limited to stock on hand, and i'd suspect many are out of and all on back order, locally brunos is running low on lotsa stuff, his internet sales is off chart.

i have some mall rifle and large pistol primers up for sale, not barking for sales, just saying, also some powder,

shame most didn't stock up, always stock up the norm need for all items shooting related, excess is ok.

    happy days

Give it a week, it will all be back in stock.  The people that are panic buying will have gotten what they want or run out of money. My usual haunts are: midsouth shooters, natchez shooter, midway usa, everglades ammo, xtreme .

Yeah, okay. I went back and looked today. You all are right,  lots of out of stock.
Buuut... there are options... none of which would I recommend. You must always stick with load data from reputable publishers.   :-P

Right now if I cant get it on line I cant get it. I am in the high risk group so no running around. I am not a high volume loader but I have time right now so I have been loading. Did 150 rounds of 357 yesterday. I have brass for another 150 and could use more. I have lots of 38 spl and 223 brass along with bullets for both. Might need powder. Have to check my small rifle primers. If nothing else I can do case prep.

A heads up on reloading Aguila. I some 357 and the flash holes were off center. Some bad enough I could not deprime. Tossed those. I wont be buying any if I want to reload.

The popular powders will vanish for a bit, I think everything will be fine.

Two pounds of IMR-4064 from Brownell's arrived yesterday.

When scarcities occur, Brownell's appears to still be a good source, and they didn't seem to be doing any price gouging, either.

Everything for 410 seems to be sold out. I cant get enough together on one order to make shipping worthwhile. I was given 200 .375 round balls 36 cal muzzle loader. I was going to make some 3 ball 410 defensive loads. Just looking for something different to do. Was also looking at using 444 Marlin brass to make shotshells. I can run those through my single stage press and they use rifle primers. Those shells are not cheap but they would last a long time.
I made some really basic 410 loading tools for plastic shells. Even found a way to size the fired plastic shells. They are for use in my single shot. I would need a roll crimper to use the shells in my pump.

A neighbor and I goofed around with that .444 Marlin shotgun shell project for a while but finally got tired of it.  The wads are the hard part to get right and you need to coat the shot with some powdered mica or graphite for best results.  He ended up buying a MEC shot shell reloader out of frustration but it was fun to fool around with.  Those round balls also work real well if you've got one of those seriously powerful slingshots.

I may just stick with the plastic. By the time you get everything together for the 444 brass it gets expensive. Tools I made did not cost anything but  a little time. Keeps me away from the refrigerator. I have an idea for a slug load. I need to figure out how to permanently attach a long fiber wad to a bullet.

Bruno's got some more CCI 500s in. Not many.
I lucked out and picked up some 124gr Berry's on Saturday and have a good amount of Bullseye for pistol and Varget for rifle (just went through 4lbs loading up for an upcoming Gunsite Carbine course). But, the supply won't last forever...
