ESEE for me as well.  I've killed two wild pigs with my ESEE 4 and I tagged my gator with it as well.  ESEE makes great products.

Esee makes good fixed blades, and are relatively affordable considering they are 1095 carbon steel.  I’ve carried an Izula in a kydex sheath behind my belt buckle for several years, and have the 4 in my get home bag.
They make a variety of designs, I’m sure one should suit your needs.

I know this a bit older thread but thought I would add my fixed blade I really like. It has a really flexible scabbard that you can position pretty much anyway you want as well it hold the knife secure until needed. It is definitely a defensive knife not an everyday use design.

I have my Spyderco Damascus for that. The fixed blade model is another Spyderco product called The Ronin II. Razor sharp and definitely not something you would want coming at you. In my latest CCW class in Tucson the instructor was a martial arts specialist as well as a knife person.

He made some sobering statements about knife vs. gunshot survivability percentages that were pretty educational and surprising as well. He was amazing with his knife skills as he showed us in class. He was like a magician in the speed he could draw and inflict damage, faster than another person could draw their carry weapon. I have a whole new respect for defensive knives when the person is proficient with them.

Nice.  That style blade would be a Wharncliffe in a pocket knife but in something that size it is more akin to a seaxx.  Looks like a reverse grip would be comfortable as well.

When I was in the USAF there was a how to disarm someone with a knife demonstration. A very smug martial arts expert got his butt served up by an 18 year old kid from Chicago. I have a healthy respect for anyone that knows how to use a blade.

If I were going to carry a fixed blade for defense it would be a CKRT Bear Claw sharp tip or a pair of them.

I like fixed blade knives. Especially when camping. And I like them for home defense (in addition to my guns). I have several strategically placed. But I have never really seen the need to have an expensive, really nice knife. I abuse them and use them to pry and dig and sometimes cut things. So my theory is several cheap knives rather than just a few expensive ones. These are just the ones I keep in my bedroom.

Buck has been pretty solid over the years.  Some of their designs are a swing and a miss for me but quality has been good.  The Vantage series has been good solid stuff for years whether you want a cheap beater knife or something with better quality steel like S30-V.

something learned after being in a sharp edge fight back in the day, is to run away like a school girl screaming, no one wins in a knife fight, its ugly, and the survivor is the first one to dr or emergency room,
imo, knife is last resort or a stealth weapon, even an untrained idiot with a blade can do some major damage, some not fixable

100% agree. But I would rather have them and not need them.

So, I wonder if the OP ever got any useful information from this thread and what blade(s) were finally selected?   :hmm

One thing to consider is hardness.
Super hard with the purported ability to hold an edge sells a lot of knives. BUT it makes one hard to resharpen in the field without special gear.
Sometimes plain ole carbon steel is better for touching up after use .

Agreed.  It can be a hard equation to balance but a lot of folks new to the super steel metallurgy don't factor in just how hard and tough some of that stuff can be to re-sharpen.   I had to regrind a tiny section of blade tip broken off during use and it took me just over an hour of hand sharpening to get it right.  That blade was D2 and is kind of in the middle of the pack for ease of sharpening.

Hardness, toughness, abrasion resistance, rust resistance - all make a knife blade harder to sharpen.  Edge geometry also plays a significant role in how well the knife performs and how difficult it is to sharpen.  When you realize what is necessary to successfully sharpen a wood chisel or the blade of a hand plane ( both are very simple edge designs and relatively uncomplicated steel ) you begin to get the idea.

It has never bothered me to take as much time as necessary to sharpen a blade.  My time is rewarded by the results.

Very true.  To this day nearly all of my sharpening is done by hand.  I have some powered equipment but it is for garden tools and lawn mower blades and such.  I cringe every time I see the guy at the local Ace Hardware store re-sharpening somebody's kitchen knives or scissors on a sanding belt with a platen behind it and not a drop of water in sight.   :smh
