.22 plinking pistol ideas?
« on: November 13, 2020, 11:48:50 pm »
Since ammo prices are up and my boys love shooting it’s time to invest in .22 pistol. I was leaning towards Taurus TX22 bc it’s cheap and 16 round mags. Any other suggestions on lower priced plinkers With greater than 10 rounds mags?  Obviously also looking for something That’s in stock to purchase... sooner rather later lol.

Have to be a pistol? I use a 10-22 take down, magpul x22 stock with a vortex venom rds.
Very light, 25 round mags, hearing safe with lots of ammo, tons of fun.

Taurus TX22 is the jazz, IF you can find one. Model 1-TX22241, no manual safety.

Just picked up a Ruger LCP II .22LR, nice little shooter, could do without the magazine and manual safeties, though. 10+1 rounds at 12 oz.

KelTec P-17 if you can find one.

    Just bought one.  Sort of.....

Calling all stores no one has one.
Go to Sportsmans Warehouse 101& 17 - they don't have one.  Not in the store or on line.  Guy at the counter says, "Buy one online any way."

I do.  It does.  Order processes and allows me to buy.

    Now waiting on the shipment.

Apparently there are two kinds of "Out of Stock."  The kind where they don't have it and don't know from when or where they will get one and another kind where they have orders processing.

Order it up online if you want one.  Mine's the Tan one.

If you order a gun online from sportsman's, do they charge an ffl transfer fee on top of the online price? Or is it included?

    FFL is included.
    Shipping is included.
    Sales tax is not included.

So that $169 pistol nets out at about $184.

The P-17 has an MSRP of $199 from Kel-Tec and everywhere I saw them they ran $199 but were out of stock an no word on when they were coming back in.

I hate to say it but I think the Taurus is the best way to go in this category! I like the Glock G44 but Im pretty sure the capacity is less..

For 22 plinkers, I still like the longer barrel pistols.

The old Ruger, Browning, Colt, Hi Standard format with a big chunky receiver and 6 to 8 inches of barrel and a full sized grip that fills your hand.  Sure they weigh in at 2lbs and are all steel but there's something to the aesthetic and nostalgia of that design.  I'm particularly smitten with the Hi Standard with the grip that feels like a 45 and Ruger that feels like a Luger.  They all hold about ten rounds give or take and shoot just about anything out there as far as ammo goes.

And if you like the meticulous break down and detail cleaning of guns like it's a Concourse d'Elegance Car, you can always run Bulk Remington Golden Bullets through it and get it all schmutzy.

What is the matter with Ya'll.
Nothing says hours of low stress plinking fun like a Single Six  Ruger.
No mis-fires , no stovepipe FTFs , never picky about ammo ,,,,,, or cleaning.
    Just plink away.
    Just sayin.
