Extar EP9 or Charger for wife's truck gun?
« on: December 21, 2020, 01:18:43 pm »
I am partial to both, both are AZ-made!

Anyone have an EP9? I am more partial to it than the Charger. Can you put a can on the end of the EP9? I could not tell.

Hear the EP9 gets hot after a mag dump, but other than that, it seems like the EP9 is more beloved and a bit cheaper than the Charger, though there is a lack of upgrades for it.

What say you?

I don't know anything about the EP9 admittedly but I'd say Charger.

I've long owned Ruger guns and they've been excellent and I trust them.

    I've owned revolvers and rifles.

Charger may be on my radar as well or their 9mm carbine...

I have the PCC takedown and it is a good gun but a little on the heavy side. Keep in mind the brace does not come with the Charger so it will cost you. If you need to break it down the Charger is the way to go. The Extar will break down but not as small as the Charger. I had a Freedom FX9 pistol until I let my wife shoot it. If you get the Extar do not let your wife shoot it.

Didn't Extar build a version of that in .45 ACP originally?  Wonder if that is still available?   :hmm

First built in 5.56 by Extar as the EXP-15. They sold the rights to New Frontier Armory and starting selling the EP9 exclusively. NFA's owner died and the EXP-15 never took off again. Not sure if they're related. Extar was supposed to come out with 10mm and 45 version, but not yet.

Ruger is a known quantity and a fine gun.  I own/have owned a few.

Extar is intriguing cause they seem to be cheap and reliable. This is for my wife abs not her daily carry, more of an emergency/truck pdw.

If going up closer to a $1K gun,  maybe a TNW Aero in 45acp or 10mm is in order.

I have fired a 460 Rowland pistol that also will shoot 45 super and 45 ACP. I wonder if the TNW Aero will do the same if you buy it in 460 Rowland?

Dang it,  I also discovered Foxtrot Mike. 9mm only but they are said to be reliable and price is right.

I imagine so.  I seem to remember an article somewhere about it when the .460 Rowland carbine was announced last year.  Probably could get the question(s) answered in FAQ section over at TNW - no? :hmm

I saw a video where an owner said he fired a single 45 acp round from his 460 Rowland carbine. Still,  they make both a 460 Rowland and a conversion barrel to 45 ACP that costs $145. The conversion to 10 mm has a barrel and bolt head.

I'm going to contact them about it and will post here when I do.  Didn't find the info in FAQs unfortunately.

This is turning into an ordeal now.  Probably leaning towards the TNW but those CMMG Banshees look sexay. Of course if it's 10mm that'll be my truck gun and I'm back to square one with my wife.  Dangit.

Get your wife the Extar and then get something for yourself. Try out the Extar before you get anything else. A matched set has a lot of advantages.

I'd have to quit my job to wait for the Extars to show up. They are gone within the hour!

I found the TNW APS pistol  in 9mm and ordered it. $350 if I want to convert it to 10mm, but I only see rifle length conversions, so I have to find out if they sell pistol length conversion barrels or look into converting it into a rifle or get the stamp.

I heard the TNWs are/were Jam-o-matics in 9mm in 115gr. Don't know much beyond that.   I'll let you all know.  Kind of a bit of buyer's remorse, heard the Charger PCC eat everything.

I'll keep searching. The Macon Armory AR45 uppers look interesting. Drawback is the propietariy mags.

Extar will notify you by email when they are in stock. I have the Ruger PCC carbine and it has never jammed.

I  had a TNW (used) in 45 and it couldn't make it through a 13 round mag without jamming.  After replacing just about all the parts related to extraction and ejecting, it only got worse.  Sold it at a loss to a dealer at a gun show after full disclosure.

This is what I am afraid of, though in this crazy time, I could probably unload on a panic buyer for a profit. It is a sexay looking weapon. I might jump on a PAK-9 that I saw for sale. As cheap as and Extar and easier to find and modify.

I wouldn't use an AR or AK in a pistol caliber for serious defense/emergency situations. They are just not reliable enough. Even the most lauded manufacturers have issues. I just don't trust them yet. If you want a PCC get something that was built from the ground up for a pistol caliber. Just my two cents.
