SA-35 (Hi Power) Feedback?!
« on: November 03, 2021, 03:58:47 pm »
https://www.springfield-armory.com/sa-35-series-handguns/sa-35-handguns/

One of the coolest pistols I’ve owned was a WWII bring back HP made in Belgium with bad guy marks on it.

That Hi Power was as accurate (even with a worn bore) as anything else I’ve shot.

Anyone have feedback on the new Springfield rendition?

I know they aren’t C&R but falls in line with those who might be familiar.

Probably going to be unobtainium for a while.  They seem to be selling for over MSRP for now so it may be hard to find one.  The reviews have been pretty good so far with only minor complaints.  The design has been updated to be closer to modern ideas about what makes a good Hi Power or clone.

Some folks are still a bit sore about some of the stuff SA did a few years back but that doesn't seem to have slowed down the sales to any great degree.

Ran a few mags thru one on Friday at SGC. The owner is a local builder and he received it via the early release program directly from SA. Got to say that I was quite impressed with it. Solid pistol, fed 115gr & 124gr with 0 issues. He did comment that SA was already stating a 1 year backlog so if you are patient you might be able to find one at close to the $699 MSRP. A member stated that he pre-ordered one from SGC and paid $650 for the reservation... Based upon my first impression, I would buy one, if I could find one... Just my opinion.
Why is this thread in the C&R forum?

Interesting.... Seeing as how Girsan is made in Turkey and so is Spingfield.  I wouldn't be a bit surprised to know they're coming out of the same building.

The SA-35 is produced at the home plant in Geneseo IL USA. They do import other firearms from Brazil and some plastic fantastics from Croatia...

Man I gotta say that is a nice piece.
I have an old Israeli HP and I do really love the design.
I know a lot of people hate on SA for one reason or another, but I think it'll do well.

They don't like SA because they would have to admit how NICE the trigger is!  :-P

I would have liked to see a aluminum frame version and checkering on the front grip.

Well, since they moved the serial number to someplace that makes sense checkering the front and back straps is now possible.

rumor is its having some extractor problems, hmmm, see what else comes up with well used units, first gens are not my buy in, i generally wait a bit to see how they perform, most won't notice it as they are casual shooters,
when we go it s a shooting day, more than 300 less than a few k, pending on what we have on menu

Also heard about some peening on the hammer from one source - maybe an out of spec part or a problem with metallurgy.  In any event there seem to be pistols out there with problems so I might have to hold off for now.

Haven't watched that video, seen a couple of others. :facepalm

After shooting my new to me, 1942 FN/Browning High Power. I Love it!

I'm looking forward to checking out SA upgrades. (Beveled mag well, modified hammer,

extended thumb safety, wider front sight blade, 15 round magazine)

I'll post my review when I get to test it out.  ;-D

Only thing I can see as a upgrade would be a Ambi-safety lever to start.  :thumbup

    Okay, I watched it.

Started off a little weird, but I liked his non bias analysis of the SA-35.  ;-D

Looks like the beginning of lots of versions and upgrades for the future!  :thumbup

Springfield use to import their frames for the 1911's from Brazil but IIRC if you have an NM prefix then it's a totally 100% U.S. made firearm. I've had 5 Springfield 1911's and they've all work flawlessly.

YouTube had a review on the SA35 you might want to read before being an SA35. I'd wait until they get the teething problems worked out. Link below.
