S&W M&P now in 10mm
« on: November 17, 2021, 02:22:37 pm »
Looks to be a winner.  Made here in the USA.  15 rd magazines.  I’m in for the 4.6” with manual safety.

    I've never wanted a 10mm until now.

The 10mm is an awesome round.  I've always been a .45 guy but the 10mm is catching up fast.

    10mm is awesome. I have a Ruger SR1911 in 10mm. Would love to add a S&W also.

I'm tempted to buy one of these. Or a Glock 10mm. Just for something a little different to 9mm!

Interesting. I have always been intrigued by 10mm. May have to pick one up. Looks like there is quite a variety of rounds available these days, check out this chart...

Available with or without manual safety. But, the 4" barrel still has the full size grip. Maybe not so great for ccw. Also, the suppressor height sights and slide look to be pretty high snag risks.
The full size is comparable to the G20 in soze, and is actually a little taller i believe.  I guess if your not a Glock fan, this is good.
I love 10mm and own a few, but not quite ready to jump in this one.
    YMMV

I tried an Italian made plastic 10mm pistol a while back, but ended up hating the ergos and the fact that it simply wasn't reliable, even after a thorough break-in process.  I got rid of the pistol, but still have some ammo for it.  I thought about trying another pistol, but am definitely not a Glock fan.  Maybe I'll give this new Smith a try.

How does the 10mm handle in the Glock 29?

Better than one would think.  It's snappy but not objectionable.  It's on par with my Glock 30.  Depending on the load it does throw a nice fireball.   :-P

I'm excited for a few reasons:
    1. The 10MM has some fantastic ballistics
    2. Until recently the 10MM platforms have been so big you might as well carry a 44 Mag.
    3. If 10MM takes off, maybe my 9MM ammo will come back down in price and get easier to find.

My current 10mm is a Springfield Armory TRP Operator, 6”.  Weighs 45 oz empty, and only has 8+1 capacity.  Not good for daily carry, but works great in a Hill People chest rig for field use.  The M&P will give me 15+1 in a lighter pistol.  I’m sure concealable holsters will follow.  I’m currently loading 200 rds of 10mm with Hornady 155 XTP bullets.  I’m waiting patiently for the new pistol.

I will probably buy one. I recently got into the 10MM world with the G20 and have really liked it. I started carrying the G20 in a Diamond D guides choice chest holster when hunting or out in my Jeep. I have since pieced another G20ish clone together with a Lone wolf frame and a Gen 4 G20 Slide and Barrel. I also have a Colt Delta Elite that is awesome.  So may try this S&W and see if it's better, different or meh. I like that its optics ready and already has the higher sights. For the money it seems like a good package. I find that the Glock mags and parts are still more available and are definitely easier to work on than the S&W's i have had. Hopefully with the new flat trigger and improved ergo the S&W will be good the way it is. Or it will be something else my kids have to sell.....

The Diamond D Guides Choice Chest Holster is great, I have one myself.

I have a Delta that's been a good range gun. I have the gLock 20 and the 29. The 20 is like holding a piece of plastic with a 4x4 on it. The glocks are battle guns. I actually like the 29 with a 15 round magazine.
I really can't see the M&P able to control the 10mm. I haven't found much serious 10mm ammo anywhere the last 7 years either.

Lot’s of videos popping up on YouTube of the new pistol in action.  No complaints of recoil.  I’ve never fired a factory 10mm rd.  I cast 175 and 200 gr lead, and load and shoot various jacketed loads.  The chronograph is most useful.

I used a 180 grain 10mm and the recoil isn't bad at all.  :thumbup
