Pistol Grip Shotguns
« on: March 07, 2024, 07:16:56 am »
I have always wondered why pistol grip shotguns are not more common. After all, they look cool, they would presumably allow for more accuracy, and most importantly, any long gun with a pistol grip makes liberals wet their pants! So I finally bought a Winchester SXC 12 gauge with a PG. Huge disappointment. After a few rounds of 00, it feels like I caught a Randy Johnson fastball with an old fielder's glove. Maybe I'm gripping it too tight?

The problem for me is the same that you experienced. The recoil is transmitted to your hand and it’s all absorbed. With a standard style the stock can slide in your grip a little, allowing your upper body to absorb more recoil. I gave up on pistol grips decades ago.

I've never liked pistol grip shotguns...the rifle style stock works better for me.  I've found the pistol grip versions raise the bore axis higher and increases muzzle flip.

I went through the same thing over 30 years ago with a Mossberg 500, shot 6 rounds through it and then sold it.

I shoot shotguns a lot and have a few , but I have no interest in a pistol grip shotgun.
Like any other tactical gadget , they will make them as long as people buy them.

It's all a matter of personal taste.  At present, we own 8 shotties, 5 of which have pistol grips.  Speaking for myself, I find that I'm more accurate with a pistol grip shotgun.

PGOs can be a liability in certain cases. Pistol grip fixed folding stocks gives you the benefit of both. :thumbup

Luckily, accuracy is not an issue for me. If I hear any kind of commotion outside, I just step out on my balcony and fire a couple of blasts in the air, Jill Biden style!

My definition of painful is the steel folding stock on my vintage 870. My dad installed it many many years ago and while handy when folded, unfolded it gives new meaning to self-inflicted pain.
