Guy1AZ, where roughly are you at again? It kind of reminds me of cave creek looking south. I enjoy the photos, so thanks for posting them.

Yup.  Beautiful shot.  I noticed the eyes under the tree again ( palo verde? ) in the coyote on the steps video.  ;-)

Good looking animals - to me, at least.  After seeing them both in person for the first time, I never understood the old Warner Brothers' cartoons featuring the the roadrunner and the coyote.   :hmm

Great pics again.   :thumbup  Yup - cholla is nasty stuff.  You never forget the first time you come away with one of those clumps stuck to you - and in you.   :shocked

    Shoot the Dancing Coyote

We live in what was rural, now more semi-rural area.

The coyotes are thick every night, in the wash to the west.

And the 'missing dog' signs with pictures of 30 lb. house dogs appear shortly after each moving truck is seen in the area.

Our place has fences and free running dogs. The smallest is a 70 lb. Doberman who is just starting to show his age. (The others are Danes, each well over 100 lbs.)

The last few nights shortly after sunset one coyote appears outside the fence. It dances and plays and flirts with the Dobie, who is not having anything to do with it, yet.

But if you look closely with a flashlight you see many pairs of extra eyes in the bushes behind the dancing coyote.

The honey-pot is not a new trick - nor is it limited to humankind.

The scary part is just how smart the coyotes are.

Tonight the pellet gun comes out. And with luck the dancing coyote will dance no more. They are smart and they learn.

And yes, this is a metaphor too. Something like - 'look behind the dancing distraction, and ask why is it dancing for me?'

The game camera has been aligned - I'm anxious to see what happens and will post anything captured.

(I am more than happy to share with the wildlife in my area - but the jig is up on this group at our place. It is time for the pack to be reminded who the real top of the food chain is.)
